Autism Assessment (1718143)

Please provide the information requested for each of the last 5 years.

1. Names of all assessment centres to which adults in the CCG are referred for autism diagnostic assessments.  Firstly, I would like the names of all centres to which adult patients under this CCG are referred for NHS assessment and diagnosis of autism (including both autism with intellectual disability and “high functioning” autism or Asperger Syndrome).

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SWYPFT), Service for Adults with ADHD/Autism, Belle Isle Health Park, Manygates, Portobello Road, Wakefield, WF1 5PN.

Sheffield Health & Social Care, Sheffield Adult Autism & Neurodevelopmental Service, Michael Carlisle Centre, 75 Osbourne Road, Sheffield, S11 9BF.

2. Number of patients of each gender who were referred to each centre for an autism assessment.  Secondly, I am specifically interested in the number of women and the number of men who were referred to each diagnostic centre. However, if there are any additional patients who identify as intersex, non-binary gender or non-recorded gender, I would also like this information.

See below.

3. Number of patients of each gender who received a diagnosis of any form of autism or autism spectrum disorder from each centre.  Finally, I would like to know how many patients of each gender were diagnosed with any autism spectrum condition. If information about sub-categories is available (e.g. how many men and women were diagnosed with Asperger’s as opposed to other autism spectrum conditions) this would be useful but is not required.

See below.

It would help if the format of the response could be as follows or similar:

The below figures relate to referrals made via the CCG’s Individual Funding Request (IFR) process.   For figures relating to referrals made via other routes you will need to contact the providers (See Question 1).

In 2017 the CCG introduced a new method of processing IFR requests.  The new system has enabled us to provide the most recent referral figures by gender.  However, for the year’s preceding this, extracting this information would involve a significant amount of manual work.  Consequently, we release to you now the total numbers of people referred and ask that, once you have had chance to reflect on the response provided as a whole, should you wish us to undertake the work required to split it by gender, you reply to this letter to let us know at the above email address.

Please also note that due to the low number of individuals involved in some instances, we are unable to disclose exact figures as they are equal to or relate to less than 5 individuals.   Releasing the exact figures in this case could potentially support re-identification of individuals and, as such, we are issuing an exemption notice under section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  Section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 provides an absolute exemption where disclosure of personal data about someone other than the applicant would contravene any of the data protection principles. Consequently, the exemption is not subject to the public interest test.
