Fertility Preservation (Breast Cancer Patients) (1819008)

We are writing to enquire under the Freedom of Information Act, what your eligibility criteria are for breast cancer patients who are wanting to undergo fertility preservation (for example cryopreservation), provided there is adequate time and their oncology allows.

More specifically;

1. Is there an upper age limit (female/male)?

Please refer to the CCG’s Access to Infertility Treatment Policy. See question 3.

2. Is there a limit on whether the patient already has children?

Please refer to the CCG’s Access to Infertility Treatment Policy. See question 3.

3. Are there any restrictions, specifically smoking status or body mass index?

There are no exclusion criteria for fertility preservation as decisions are based on clinical presentation. IFR funding requests are made if patients wish to proceed with IVF treatment using the preserved eggs and there are some restrictions on NHS funded IVF. Please refer to the CCG’s the Access to Infertility Treatment Policy here:

4. What fertility options are offered? For example, embryo cryopreservation and/or oocyte cryopreservation?

The CCG does not hold this information.

5. Is there a time limit for storage?

Preserved eggs are stored for up to 10 years.

6. How many IVF cycles or embryo transfers are covered?

The CCG only offer 1 full cycle of IVF for patients meeting the IFR criteria for IVF.
