#Talented: what it means for our organisation

In Celebration of Calderdale Council’s #Talented week, we asked Dr Matt Walsh for a few words on the talent he sees in our organisation.

CCG Chief Officer, Dr Matt Walsh

This organisation is full of people who are deeply committed to the work that they are here to do. We have great talent here.

We recognise that everyone is talented, and we try hard to make sure that each person can use their own individual talents in their work to benefit our population.

Everyone in this organisation shares a talent for working together, and there is a recognition that nobody is as capable as everybody. We have a talent for teamwork. We have a fantastic staff forum, which is made up of people in different roles at different levels and gives anyone who wants to, the opportunity to share their talents and shape the work of the organisation in order to make this a better place to be.

At the CCG we work with others in the system in order to put things in place to help the people of Calderdale to live happier and healthier lives so everyone who lives here can use their talent; our engagement approach is to find the people in our communities who know what really matters, who are able to create a maintain great relationships with others in their communities and work with them. We are working together to make Calderdale a great place to grow up, and great place to be and a great place to grow old.

We want to do more: across our system we are starting to work differently to understand where the skills and resources are in our system, and use this in the best possible way. We are working with local educational establishments to develop our talented future workforce, as well as our existing one.

We have worked together in our system to bring about real change – without our individual and collective talents, there would not have been the fantastic reduction in Delayed Transfers of Care that we have seen in the Calderdale system. The talent we have in this organisation is helping us to make a real difference to people’s health and wellbeing, and I’m very proud of that.
