1. What value of transport services (both patient and goods) do you commission each year that is not paid for under a block contract?
The cost of extra contractual request (ECR) journeys per month is approximately £10,000. The majority of ECRs are delivered by Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) with approximately 40% of journeys paid for within a separate ECR budget that is within the block contract value.
2. Approximately how many suppliers does this relate to?
There are less than 10 providers. There are no contracts with ECR providers other than YAS. Transport delivered by other providers is generally in respect of discharge and transfers from hospitals that are out of area.
3. Approximately how many journey/shipments does this relate to?
There are approximately 250 ECR journeys per month.
4. Please can you describe the process for ensuring that the invoices relating to the above data are valid and accurate?
All requests for journeys with a value over £200 are made to the CCG’s Contracting Team. The requests are checked for clinical need and logged on a spreadsheet. When invoices are received they are checked against the spreadsheet prior to payment.
