Extra GP appointments make sure patients aren’t left out in the cold this winter

Appointments with GPs and practice nurses are available every day over the winter period.

People can access routine appointments from 6.30pm – 8.00pm Monday to Friday and weekend appointments from 10:00am-2:00pm every Saturday and Sunday.

Appointments are also available between 10:00am – 11.30am on Bank Holidays, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

These extra appointments are held at GP practices in Halifax, Illingworth, Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge and Todmorden.

To book, or for more information, contact your registered GP practice and ask for an Extended Access appointment.

Please contact your GP practice during normal opening hours, between 8am and 6:30pm Monday to Friday, to book into an Extended Access appointment.  Practices will remain open until 6:30pm on Christmas Eve and 6:30pm on New Year’s Eve.

Dr Caroline Taylor, GP at Beechwood Medical Centre in Ovenden and Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Governing Body member, said:

“Winter is always a busy period for the NHS, which is why it’s so important that people know that GPs and Practice nurses are on-hand every day during the winter period.

“We know that many people struggle to access GP appointments at a time that suits them, particularly over the Christmas period when many people are very busy. That’s why we’ve worked with GPs to improve peoples’ access to primary medical services.

“People registered with GP practices in Calderdale can access appointments seven days a-week, even on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.”

“If people aren’t feeling their best it’s important to remember that pharmacists can offer immediate health advice, recommend over-the-counter treatments and will advise you to see a doctor if necessary.

“People can also protect themselves and those close to them by having a flu jab. Speak to your GP or midwife to see if you’re eligible for an NHS flu vaccine. If you’re not, pharmacies across Calderdale have vaccines available.”
